EAL for Health care Professionals
How's your bedside manner?
75% of patients complain that their medical providers don't communicate well.
Is the message you are trying to convey being heard and understood?
Or is it driving patients away?
Communication is at the center of all successful medical and health services practices.
Regardless of whether your practice model is Western-based or considered a Complementary Alternative Medicine (CAM) practice, your presentation and interaction can make or break the experience for the patient. Whether you are a Physician, Mid-level Practitioner, Nurse, CAM Practitioner or work in one of these settings, you can benefit from our programs for health professionals.
Do you need to:
Improve rapport-building with patients, rapidly and easily?
Enhance bedside manner, connection and compassion (without risking your sanity!)
Develop confidence-building presence?
Horse Sense of the Carolinas uses Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) to help health professionals develop better rapport and relationship-building skills with their patients and their families. By utilizing the curious, instinctive nature of the horses, we help you and your team become more aware of and in control of your non-verbal communication in the therapeutic space, increasing trust and respect among the provider and the patient, thereby ensuring satisfaction with your presence and your practice.
Patient-Centered Care & Bedside Manner Workshop
Enhancing Communication Between Provider and Patient Using Equine Assisted Learning
Communication is the center of successful practice. It starts with introductions and first impressions. It traverses the concepts of trust, respect, presence, and compassion. Failure in any part of this can lead to miscommunication, misdiagnosis, education errors or deficiencies for the patient and potentially malpractice. One third of patients feel that they have not been given the “full story”.
This experiential workshop for groups of 4 or more focuses on the concept of “patient-centered” care. The importance of verbal and non-verbal communication in the therapeutic space is highlighted. A focused look at one’s presentation style and how to modify it according to the patient and or family will be reviewed. Boundaries including both boundary-opening and boundary-limiting behaviors and appropriate actions to enhance each will be identified and practiced. Finally this workshop will look at balancing technical and cognitive skills with interpersonal skills.
