Introduction to Equine Assisted Psychotherapy

Horse Sense of the Carolinas, Inc., is offering a one-day interactive workshop designed to educate participants on the basics of Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP), introducing participants to both Trauma-Focused EAP model and the EAGALA (Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association) model. 

This workshop is designed to introduce the core concepts behind EAP, benefits, and demonstrating basic EAP activities with participants. Equine Assisted Psychotherapy creates a natural and non-threatening opportunity, especially for those new to or uncomfortable with traditional therapeutic settings, to identify negative patterns of behavior, and practice new functional ones. (No riding and no horse experience needed)

Audience: Health Care Administrators, Counselors, Life Coaches, Mental Health Professionals, Social Workers, Family Therapists, Parents, Case Managers, Substance Abuse Providers

Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Compare and contrast the differences between EAP and tradition psychotherapeutic modalities
  • Identify benefits and risks associated with EAP
  • Recognize the nature of projection and transference as it explored through the EAP model
  • Explain the parallels between equine and human psychology
  • Explain Relationship Logic and Rhythmic Riding, components of the TF-EAP model
